Top 3 Household Plumbing Tips

Here are a few of the top reasons we get calls on a daily basis.  If you are attempting to DIY your plumbing issues, please keep it simple.  If you have a complex problem, call us!

1. Clogged tub drain:
Occasionally those pesky tub drains will become slow and even not drain at all. Most often it's due to excess hair or built up scum in the tub drain. You can try plunging the drain with a plunger, or unscrewing the pop up to access the drain and remove the hair. If this doesn’t solve the problem, give us a call and we'll be glad to help.

2. Water Leak:
In the unfortunate moment that you have a water leak, you'll need to be able to turn the water off until help arrives. If the leak is on a sink or toilet, you can most often turn the water off by a valve under the sink or behind the toilet. Turn this valve clockwise until the water stops. If your leak is unknown or anywhere other than above a fixture shut off, you may need to turn the entire property off. There are two ways to do this. First, if you have a meter key, you may turn the water off at the meter to your home. If you have an emergency shut-off on the exterior of your home, you should be able to turn the water off there as well. If you are unsure of where to shut the water off during an emergency or need to have a valve installed, give us a call, we'll be glad to help.

3. Sewage back-up:
On some occasions we may experience a sewage back-up in our home or business. It is important that you know where the access to your sewer system is. Most sewer "clean outs" are located slightly above the ground and are a white cap with a square top. If you have a sewage back up, you can remove this cap (only outside your home/business) and relieve the back up until help arrives. If you are unsure of where your clean-out is or would like to have one installed, give us a call, we'll be glad to help.
